Guilty of what exactly? No one who believes he is guilty can ever answer that question for me because they are so ill-informed and ignorant. Everything about that trial was stacked against him. And for someone to be convicted on every count is unheard of and raises a red flag. Even a high school kid who cheats on an algebra test knows enough not to get every answer correct. So far, only one indictment against President Trump has gone to trial. That is the so-called” Hush Money.” case. This resulted in a conviction, but the charges are absurd. I read the indictment and statement of facts, there is no crime alleged. In substance, Donald Trump had a meeting with a porn star at a hotel. She claims they had sex. He denies it. Either way, there is no crime alleged. Some time thereafter, she contacted a Trump lawyer and demanded money. She was paid a sum of money. She may have been guilty of extortion but was never charged. Again, no crime. The lawyer paid her and asked to be reimbursed by Trump. The money came from a draw account Trump had with his corporation. It was not deducted. The allegation was that the money was paid but shown as legal expenses. This was alleged by the State of New York to be a federal crime. The federal government declined to prosecute it because even if it were to be considered a campaign contribution, a candidate can contribute his own personal money to his own campaign. No crime charged. Donald Trump was elected president. Trump’s lawyer was reimbursed on a monthly basis and the payments were listed on the corporate record as legal payments. All payments and book entries were made after the election. The State of New York charged that the entries were to conceal the uncharged federal crime in violation of state law. The jury instructions apparently allowed the jury to disagree as to which state laws were involved. I spent thirty-five years with the U.S. DOJ. I was in the Criminal Division, The Criminal Section of the Tax Division and the Watergate Special Prosecutors Office before switching to Environmental Law. I briefed and argued in appellate courts, conducted grand jury investigations, tried criminal and civil cases. The “hush money” case is a bunch of nonsense.
